Now that you have mastered the very basic of squash exercises I want you to try
a few more complicated routines. These will be more difficult at first but once
you have mastered them will make the game a lot easier. These are all 2 people
routines but can be adapted for 3 people. Try and continue each routine for at
least 2 minutes.
boast, dv (John hits a boast from the back and James must
hit a drive from the front of the court)
boast, c/c, dv (John hits a boast
from the back, James must hit a cross-court from the front and John must hit a
drive from the back of the court)
boast, dv, dv (John hits a boast from the
back, James must hit a drive from the front and John must hit a drive from the
back of the court)
boast or dv (John and James can boast or drive from the
back however, they must both drive from the front of the court)
boast, dv or
c/c (John hits a boast from the back, James can drive or cross-court from the
front of the court)
c/c, dv, dv (John hits a cross-court from the back, James
must hit a drive from the back and John must hit a drive from the back of the
court.
A good game to play to practice your drives is the back court game.
John serves and thereafter both John and James must hit the ball to the back of
the court.
Now once you have mastered the game above, you will still be
playing to the back of the court however, James and John are also allowed to
boast.
More Squash Routines
serve and volley (John serves to James and
James must return John’s ball straight down the wall to the back of the
court)
boast, c/c, volley (John hits a boast from the back, James must hit a
cross-court lob and John must hit a volley drive from the back of the
court)
volley c/c (John must stand in the service box and volley cross-court
to James who is standing on the opposite side. James must then volley back to
John)
volley dv and (John must volley drive to himself and then volley
cross-court to
volley c/c James. James must then volley drive to himself and
the volley cross-court to John)
volley dv and (John must volley drive to
himself and then volley cross-court to
volley c/c from James. James must then
volley drive to himself and the volley
the back cross-court to John. This
must be done from the back of the court)
Both John and James play a normal
game. However, if John is able to play a drive that hits the back wall James
will lose the point and if James is able to play a drive that hits the back wall
John will lose the point. Both John and James must try to take the ball
early.More and More Squash Routines
drop and drop (John
must hit a forehand drop to James and James must then hit a backhand drop back
to John)
Boast, drop (John must hit a boast from the back, James must hit a
drop
and drive and then John must hit a drive from the front of the
court)
feed and drop (John must stand in the front and hit the ball nicely to
the center of the court. James must hit a forehand drop back to John)
feed
and drop (James must stand in the front and hit the ball nicely to the center of
the court. John must hit a forehand drop back to James)
Boast, drop, c/c
(John must hit a boast from the back, James must hit a drop, John
lob and
volley must then run forward and hit a cross-court lob and James should drive
then volley John’s lob down the wall)
Boast, drop, c/c (James must hit a
boast from the back, John must hit a drop, James
lob and volley must then run
forward and hit a cross-court lob and John should drive then volley James’s lob
down the wall)
Now John and James are going to play a game using the American
scoring system. If either John or James win a rally off their drop shot they
will win 2 points however, if they hit their drop into the tin they will lose
all of their points.
